Lanyards

One of my colleagues mentioned once that with winter coming she would wear more the type of clothing that has no place to hang our ID batches from work - leggings and long sweaters kind of thing. She had asked for a lanyard at security but there were none left so I immediately thought I should make one for her. And I finally did.

Here's what I used:

  1. Old jeans
  2. Ruler
  3. Chalk
  4. Scissors
  5. Pins
  6. Thread
  7. Sewing machine
  8. Button
  9. Beads

So here's how it gets done:

1. Cut a strip of the jeans or the fabric you decided to use around 80cm long and 5 cm wide.

Tip: use a fabric that is not too light or else it will be hard to tack and sew.

2. Fold the two sides of your fabric until the middle of the fabric and hold them with the pins.

3. Fold again in the middle closing the fabric and hold with the pins. See picture below:

4. Now you are ready to sew lengthwise.

5. Insert the hook in your piece, place it in the middle and sew the fabric there so the hook can’t get off.

6. Sew the tops together overlying them for around one centimeter.

7. Decorate with buttons and beads at your taste.

It's a very casual look and the colors chosen go with everything.

If you feel inspired to do your own go ahead and leave a comment on how did it go or even a picture. I'm thinking of trying to do a new one with braiding, that would be even cooler!
